December 2010
12/13/10:  Juan Cisneros has joined the SDBC Men's Elite Team. Juan is a Cat-2 and raced with Cal Pools/Dewalt team during 2010. Juan lives in Chula Vista.  His racing age during 2011 will be 26.
November 2010
11/04/10:  Diego Sandoval has joined the SDBC Men's Elite Team. Diego was on the SDBC Junior Team last year. He upgraded to Cat-2 at the end of last year. His racing age for 2011 will be 18. We are excited to have two young racers, Diego and Eric, on the elite team for 2011 and would love to find some more young talent.
11/04/10:  Laura Hines has joined the SDBC Women's Elite Team. Laura joined the team a couple of weeks ago. Laura is a Cat-2 and raced with Helen's team during most of 2010. Her strengths are in stage races, road races and break aways. She is a perfect fit for the women's team and we are excited to have Laura on the 2011 roster.

10/14/10:  Eric Landman has joined the SDBC Men's Elite Team. Eric is currently going to SDSU and is on the SDSU Cycling Team. Next year Eric will be competing with both the elite team and the collegiate team. Eric was also a member of the SDBC junior team. Welcome Eric!
10/10/10:  We would like to welcome some new members to the SDBC Elite Teams.
Dianna Del Fante has joined the women's elite team for 2011. Dianna is a Cat-1 and finished the year in 7th place overall in SoCal points. Dianna lives in Brea. Martin Adamcyzk joins the men's elite team for 2011. Martin is a Cat-1 and raced with team SoCalCycling.com during 2011. Martin is a homey, living in Rancho Bernardo. We welcome Dianna and Martin to the elite team rosters for 2011.
10/10/10:  Congratulations to Scott Hammack. Scott won the Men's Cat 1/2/3 category at the Fiesta Island TT this morning and was also the fastest time of the day. His time was 25.51 for 20K averaging 28.85 MPH.
September 2010
9/19/10:  This is the first off-week for the elite teams since February. The season is all but over. The only races left are upgrade races which the 2's may attend. Work on next years men's and women's rosters is in full swing. Nick Onate and Todd Willis are heading to Interbike, La Vegas, this coming week.
9/14/10:  Congratulations to Scott Hammack. Scott finished 10th over in the CBR BAR series for Pro 1/2 riders. The BAR series is 9 reaces long and is held througout the 2010 season. Scott and most of the elite team attended the majority of the events. Nice job Scott!

9/12/10:  Both the men's and women's elite teams attend the 40k team time trial this morning at Fiesta Island. The women won the women's open category! The men got second place in the men's open category, losing to the fastest team by only one second!
August 2010
8/29/10:  The men's elite team raced the San Clemente Criterium today. Gabe Varela took 4th place in the Pro 1/2 race. This was a new race on the calendar and a very challenging criterium. A group of three got away on lap 3 and stayed away for the entire race. Gabe won the field sprint for 4th!
8/22/10:  SDBC Men's Elite Team wins Ontario #5 Summers End Grand Prix! Gabe Varela wins the Pro 1/2/3 race with the help from the men's elite team. Great job Gabe!
July 2010
7/26/10:  Pictures from San Marcos men's and women's elite races are posted in the gallery. 7/19/10:  The team raced Ontario Crit last Sunday. Temperature was in excess of 100 degrees. In the men's race Sammy Dean finished 9th and Chris Bennett finished 14th in the Pro 1-2 race. In the women's pro 1-3 race Trina Jacobson finished 8th and Simone Morissette finished 10th.
7/8/10:  The women's team met at Acqua al 2 tonight for dinner and celebration. The women said good bye to Lisa Young. Lisa and husband Nick Turner are moving to D.C. next weekend. Dr. Turner has taken a job with the Treasury Department.
7/7/10:  Almost a full elite men's team contested the Blue Trolley Criterium last Saturday (7/2) here in San Diego. With excellent help from the team Aaron Quesnell took 5th place. Click on the link to view pictures from the race.

June 2010
6/28/10:  Kelli Jones and Simone Morissette raced Manhattan Beach Grand Prix Women's Pro 1-3 race yesterday. Congratulations go to Simone for taking 6th place in a full field sprint. 
Last Friday, 6/25, Gabe Varela competed at Elite National Championships which was held in Bend Oregon. Gabe finished the criterium in 19th place. This is a great showing against all the best amateur riders from around the country.
6/20/10:  Gabe Varela has been racing on a composite team at the Nature Valley Grand Prix. Gabe got some great PR from the Velonews.com.Click on the link to read the article.
6/19/10:  The men raced the Ontario Airport Crit today. In the 30+ race, Aaron Quesnell, Nick Turner and Sam Dean got into a 6-man break that stayed away until the end. Aaron placed 2nd, Nick placed 5th and Sam placed 6th. Chris Bennett won the field sprint for 7th!
In the Pro 1-2 race Chris Bennett finished 7th, Nick Turner finished 10th and Sam Dean finished 12th. A good day all around.
Next weekend the teams head to the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix.
6/8/10:  Gabe completed all 5 stages of the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic. He finished 74th in the final GC. 108 riders completed the event. 154 riders started the event in the Pro 1/2 category.
Scott Hammack did the Men's Elite State Championship Road Race last Sunday, 6/6. A hard hot and windy day of racing in Bakersfield. We are still waiting for results to be posted. Scott thinks he finished somewhere between 12th and 15th place. Great job Scott!
6/5/10:  Gabe is doing stage-4 of the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic today. Saturday's race is a 92 miles and 10,500 ft of climbing. Gabe is currently in 66 place, 12:12 down from the leader. Yesterday, Gabe did the TT, finishing in 40th, 3:46 down from the winner. Sundays stage is a 90 minute criterium on a mostly flat course.
Scott Hammack and Nick Turner head to Bakersfield for the SCNCA Elite State Championships which will be held tomorrow. Race distance is 93 miles, 3 laps of the course.
6/1/10:  At the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic in Oregon Gabe Varella finished 32nd in the prologue out of 153 Pro-1 riders. Gabe is down 22 seconds to the leader. Wednesday is a grueling 90 minute circuit race in the late afternoon.
6/1/10:  We are all very concerned about the news that Walt Downey, Nytro, was in a bicycle accident yesterday and is now in the hospital. Our thoughts are with Walt and we hope he has a quick and complete recovery.

5/31/10:  Scott Hammack placed 9th today at CBR's Memorial Day Criterium at Long Beach.
5/30/10:  Simone Morissette takes 10th place at the SCNCA State Championships at Barry Wolfe.
Gabe Varella packed his pickup truck and is heading to Oregon for the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic (6/1-6/6), a NRC race. After Mt. Hood, Gabe heads to race the Nature Valley Grand Prix in Minnesota (6/14-6/18) which is also a NRC race. He returns to Oregon after Nature Valley for Elite National Championships, both road and criterium (7/5-7/10).
5/29/10: Congratulations to our new state champion, Kelli Jones. Kelli took 1st place in the two women category of the State Championship TTT at Lake Los Angeles. Kelli did the TTT with Monica King from SBW.

5/26/10: Congratulations to elite team member Nick Turner. Nick successfully defended his PhD in Economics today. Nick is completing his final days at UCSD and will be headed to Washington DC to work for the Treasury Department.
5/23/10: The men headed north to the Old Course Brea Criterium. Chris Bennett finished the Pro 1-2 race in 13th place today. In the Masters 35+ race Nick Onate finished in 7th place and Tomo Hamasaki finished in 10th place.

5/16/10: Both the men and women headed to Ontario for the Mid-Season Crit. Trina Jacobson finished 10th in the Women's 1-3 race. Tomo Hamasaki finished 7th in the Masters 30+ race.
5/15/10: Congratulations to Scott Hammack. Scott travelled to Lake Los Angeles for the SCNCA State ITT Champioships. Scott finished the ITT in 3rd place; one second behind second place and 10 seconds behind first place after 40K and 50 minutes of racing.
5/15/10: The International Friendship Games hosted their first race in Chula Vista. Congratulations to Trina Jacobson for wining the Women's 1-4 race.
In the Men's Cat-2 only race Chris Bennett placed 3rd and Nick Turner placed 5th.
The Cat-1 men had to race the Men's 35+ race. Tomo Hamasaki placed 3rd, Aaron Quesnell placed 4th and Nick Onate placed 6th.

5/9/10:  Simone Morissette heads to Paramount Criterium to defend her state championship in the Masters 35+ category. She finishes in 5th place this year. Simone does the Women's 1-3 race also and finishes 9th.
5/8/10:  The men and women headed to the popular Long Beach Criterium. This is very fun downtown criterium. The race attracts big and talented fields with its generous cash prize list. The men's Pro 1-2 race ended in disapointment when Gabe Varella was being set up for the finish. Gabe crashed out, getting caught in a pile up, with a couple of laps to go.
In the Women's 1-2 race Lisa Young, Trina Jacobson and Kelli Jones all ended up in the top 20 with Lisa being the best at 12th place.

5/1/10:  Simone Morissette takes 4th place today at the Barrio Logan Gand Prix. This is Simone's first race with the 2010 team. The team rode a great race and Simone finished it in a big way.
In the men's Pro 1-2 race the men men did not fair as well. Aaron Quesnell was the highest placed at 21st place. Ugh! Drew Salcedo ended up at the emergency room after crashing out and hitting a sidewalk mounted transformer. Prognosis is separated shoulder and a bad case of cankles.

April 2010

4/29/10: Gabe Varela was just notified that he has earned a spot on the composite Nature Valley Team. Gabe will be racing at the Nature Valley Stage Race with all expenses paid. His team mates will come from all around the country; each earning a spot on the team. Congrat's to Gabe for this great honor!
4/27/10: Last weekend Gabe Varela raced The Cherry Blossom Cycling Classic Pro 1-2 stage race. The location of the race is 50 miles east of Portland and is 3 days and 4 stages long. Gabe was racing on a composite team with some homey’s from Idaho.
Stg-1 (4/23): Columbia Hills Road Race, Gabe Varela, 7th place, 80 miles and 4,160 ft of climbing,
Stg-2 (4/24): Orchard Run Circuit Race, Gabe Varela, 9th place, 73 miles and 7,500 ft of climbing,
Stg-3 (4/25): Eight Mile Creek TT, Gabe Varela, 8th place, 10 miles, 620 ft of climbing,
Stg-4 (4/25): Cherry City Criterium, Gabe Varela, 8th place, 60 minutes, flat,
Overall GC: Gabe Varela, 6th place overall!
Gabe placed top 10 in all 4 stages and 6th place overall. 93 pro 1-2 riders started the stage race. Along with Gabe’s excellent overall result, Gabe is clearly eligible for the Nature Valley Pro Ride Selection. If Gabe does not get the nod for Nature Valley, he will get another chance this weekend at Barrio Logan and San Luis Rey Road Race.
4/18/2010: Today the women raced at the Torrance Criterium. Simone Morissette sprinted for 4th place and Trina Jacobson was right behind Simone for 5th.

4/13/2010: A very exciting day for Gabe Varela. Today, Gabe was notified that he had earned his Cat-1 upgrade. Gabe is headed home to Idaho for two weeks of road racing. He’ll be back in time for Barrio Logan and to contest the Nature Valley selection challenge.
4/11/2010: Congratulations to Gabe Varela for making a break with about 15 riders at Dan Point men’s Cat-2 race and finishing 2nd in a tough and dangerous sprint.
Trina Jacobson and Kelli Jones made the decision to to the double today! In the early morning the two contested the Omnium Women’s 1/4 Criterium. Trina finished the race in 2nd place. Trina and Kelli later joined Lisa Young at Dana Point for the Women’s 1-3 race. Trina and Kelli finished with the field. Lisa became close friends with a hay bale. A soft landing.
The Cat-1 SDBC men contested the Pro-1 race at Dana Point. A very hard race stacked with full US pro teams and $15k cash prize money at the end. Towards the end of the race Andrew hit a hail bale. The impact broke his rear deraileur. Andrew was stuck in his 53-11 gear as he did the final laps of the race! The race continued to be smooth and hard until 3 laps to go. A controversial incident caused a massive crash right before the start/finish line. Aaron and Tomo cleared the crash. Andrew was forced to bunny-hop some carnage. The bunny hop must have blown Andrew’s tire. Now he was riding on a bike with a flat tire and just his 53-11 gear. The final blow was when Andrew’s tube wrapped around his rear hub. Andrew’s day was finally over. In the end, Aaron finished 21st, just outside the money, but still a very good result for this talented field.

4/5/2010: Simone Morissette rejoins the SDBC Women’s team! Welcome back Simone.
4/4/2010: The men travelled to Dominguez Hills for the Ride it Like You Stole It CBR criterium. Near the end of the race the field swelled causing Nick Turner and others to go down. Nick ended up in the hospital. A Cat Scan showed that Nick had a concussion. but was otherwise alright. Best result for the race was Scott; 12 place.
The women’s team decided to Ontario. Trina and Kelli headed to the Easter Sunday Grand Prix. Kelli bridged to a breakaway and finished the race in 5th place. Trina finished with the field in 11th.

4/2/2010: Chris Bennett starts his velodrome season in LA. Chris and John Arnold finished 3rd in the Madison.
